Vanguard Mutual Funds List
Are you looking for a list of popular Vanguard mutual funds? Here’s a list of all their funds sorted by asset allocation type. (i.e. stock funds, bond funds, money market funds) Most likely you’re looking for stock, or equity funds, which are toward the bottom of that list.
Vanguard is one of the most trusted names in investing. They’re a not-for-profit company founded by investing legend John Bogle. They foster a culture of empowering the individual investor with high-quality products at bargain-basement prices. Definitely a good place to invest your capital.
If you’re looking for a fund that tracks the S&P 500–which is comprised primarily of large-cap stocks–take a look at the Vanguard 500 Index Fund. This fund seeks to mimic the movement of the S&P 500, and it does so almost exactly.
It has a very low expense ratio of 0.15%, compared to an average of over 1.0% for most large-cap funds. It may not seem like too big of a difference, but 1% is more than 5 times 0.15%. There is also a $20 yearly account maintenance fee if you have less than $10,000 invested in the fund. However, you can get this waived by signing up for electronic statement delivery and jumping through a few other hoops.
One of the hottest on the Vanguard Mutual Funds List is the Energy Fund. So far this year, it is one of the only funds that has actually made money. Over the last 5 years, it’s averaged an annual return of over 32% per year. At that rate–using the rule of 72–your money would double about every 2.25 years (72/32 = 2.25).
So if you would’ve invested $10,000 in that fund 5 years ago, it would’ve doubled once to $20,000, and then doubled again to $40,000!
Another third mutual fund from Vanguard you should check out for some international exposure is the Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund. The 5-year average annual return on this badboy is even higher than the Energy Fund’s. Read the fine print though, because there’s 0.5% charge to buy it. That means if you buy in with $10,000, you have to pay 0.5%, or $50 to Vanguard right off the bat.
I like Vanguard a lot in general. Some of their funds under-perform their benchmarks by a little bit, but they’re generally very affordable.
